April's Bar Friday
"Friday"
1991 AQHA Gelding
THEN: increasingly shortened stride, “choppy” gaited, more and more unwilling over time, sore backed.
NOW: Happy, sound and an excellent horse on which to learn contact, feel and lateral work
Brant and Friday at Tamarack Horse Camp, Sept 2006
Friday is a farm favorite, loving gelding. His sensitivity and alertness is exceptional. He was a “Laura only” horse until 2000 when he started giving a few lessons to select students. I always thought he had great hooves until I learned that he was actually very contracted, had high heels and was on his way to “navicular” disease or “heel pain” syndrome. I began rehabilitating Friday in 2003 with barefoot trimming. He responded well and was able to be worked lightly and trail ridden throughout. Friday is now back to his old self, barefoot, treeless and bitless, he is a school and trail horse. with a stride that is loosening and lengthening. It’s nice to see him happy and willing again!
